Data protection is in force almost everywhere we go. There are a couple of examples where data protection is in force which affects us nearly every day. The most obvious of these is banks. Banks hold a large amount of private information about us. We typically don’t want this information being passed to other people. Details of our account numbers, payments and even balances are things that only we and the bank should know. There have been stories in the past of unscrupulous employees taking account details and then selling them on for personal gain. The person who has our account details then typically drains the victims account and leaves them in financial difficulty.
 
With this in mind, employers need to ensure that they only hire employees that they can trust. The best way to do this is to carry out background checks such as those available from PeopleChecking. If a potential employee was found to have a criminal record or a history of deceit in a previous position then they would not be suitable for working in an environment with access to sensitive information.
