Safety First

Some professions have an exceptionally high level of responsibility.

Positions of responsibility that may immediately spring to mind would typically be things such as Police officers, teachers and lawyers. However, there are a number of jobs that have unimaginable levels of responsibility. You may think that someone working for a gas company isn’t that important, however, this person’s action can potentially lead to the loss of life. If a gas technician does not service a boiler correctly then this could potentially lead to a gas link or even an explosion and the effects of this could be catastrophic.

With this level of responsibility, it is vital that businesses ensure that its employees are qualified for the position that they are employed. This means that businesses must ensure that qualification checks and a professional membership check such as those available from PeopleChecking are carried out before a job offer is made. If a company were to employ someone who had lied about their background and this individual went on to make a fatal mistake in their work, then the employer would be just as liable as the employee for any resulting prosecution. Most businesses could not afford to take such a negative hit in terms of both reputation and financial loss.

Potential employees may be tempted to lie about their qualifications and memberships in an effort to secure a job. They may very well be able to do the job without and potential risks, however, in the eyes of the law, if certain employees don’t have certain qualifications then this can put a companies future at risk.
