Real Or Fake?
Modern life isn't always as easy as it should be.
The threat of terrorism, redundancy, crime and money worries can make things stressful. Unfortunately, crime and money worries are often closely linked. The increasing number of identity thefts being reported really does make you aware of protecting your personal information, and makes employment screening an attractive option for employers.
Sadly, such crimes not only affect the person who has had their identity stolen, it also affects any other people or businesses that have contact with the thief. This may sound a little far fetched, but consider this example: say an illegal immigrant steals your passport; they forge it so it appears that they are now you. Firstly, this enables them to take out credit and credit cards in your name, there's nothing to stop this person racking up thousands of pounds of debt; leaving you liable for it.
Secondly, imagine that this illegal immigrant is given a job. This obviously doesn't directly affect you but it does affect the employer of the illegal immigrant. However, in the above example, the employer would probably see no good reason to carry out a passport check. The immigrant has a British passport so there shouldn't be a problem. This is not the case though, as if the employer was caught employing an illegal immigrant then they could be subject to criminal charges which just goes to show the importance of a passport check.
