Pre Employment Screening

Choosing to tell the truth is a subjective thing that has lots of potential pitfalls and many grey areas.

There are some of us who would never dream of telling a lie, some of us who believe that a few fibs would never hurt anyone and then there are some who think nothing of over exaggerating achievements or taking advantage of more trustworthy people.

One area where some people may be tempted to falsify information is on their CV, which is why a thorough CV check is a necessity for all employers. We have all probably added a couple of details to our personal interests section in the hope of making us seem more intelligent. Including something like 'I have an interest in the arts and theatre' sounds a lot better than 'I like to watch TV and drink beer'. These minor exaggerations don't really cause a problem. However, if you were to invent qualifications or declare that you had a driving licence or a professional qualification when you actually didn't, it would potentially cause serious problems. A employer may be impressed by such untruths on your CV and give you the job as a result, but if you were to be found out, you could be instantly sacked and the employer would have to spend more time and money recruiting a more suitable employee.
