Healthy Competition

The new coalition government and the policies that it is choosing to enforce are certainly making waves in the job market.

One prime example of this is the government's recent announcement that they will cut nearly half a million jobs in the public sector over the next few years. This is a huge announcement that some will find distressing, however it is a vital part of this government's efforts to reduce the country's budget deficit.

This announcement will have huge repercussions on the job market for the next few years. With half a million less jobs in the public sector, the private sector will have to look to create another half a million jobs. Whether or not these jobs will be created will depend on the country's recovery from the recent recession.

Whether the new jobs are created or not, what will happen is that there will be another 500,000 people applying for the same jobs as all of the other currently unemployed people. This is only going to lead to greater competition and desperation for job seekers.

With this in mind, employers are going to need to carry out more and more background checks to ensure that potential new employees are who they say they are, are as qualified as they claim to be and are suitable for the position. To do this, employers will look to carry out a range of employee background checks such as those available from PeopleChecking. These checks will enable employers to quick sift through the greater amounts of unsuitable candidates that they are likely to encounter in the future.
