Hard to Shake

It is an unfortunate reflection on society that we often have preconceptions about certain people. Some people will see certain groups or individuals and make wild assumptions about them, for example, some people see an obese person and instantly think th

Similarly, some people may assume that a homeless person may be someone with a history of domestic issues; in reality they may have just been unlucky.

The same sort of rule applies to people with a criminal record. People may just assume that as someone has a criminal record, they are not to be trusted with things such as money or providing care for others. This again is unfair to assume, however, it is quite easy to see why people may assume this when you consider that the re-offending rate is so high.

This point is especially prominent when someone with a criminal record applies for a job. The applicant may decide that the best thing to do is to lie about their past as they feel a criminal record will hinder their efforts in finding a job. However, most employers now carry out criminal records checks such as those available from PeopleChecking to get a full picture of an applicant’s background. The best thing an applicant can do is to be honest and give a full explanation of their conviction. There really is no place to hide if an employer has the sense to carry out a CRB check.
